Älgshult is a pittoresque small village, consisting of four houses and several small cottages, beautifully situated at the lake Älgsjö (=moose-lake). You rent the oldest house of the village, a stagecoach stop for mail service, where people changed horses on their way from Kalmar to Stockholm. The Swedish King himself used to take this road (it's called "Kungsvägen" i.e. king's road) and you can read the year 1753 above the entrance door of the little church house (which now stores the wood for your oven). Today the house is fully renovated and offers all comfort, including washing machine and dishwasher, Flat-TV, modern kitchen with freeze, etc.
The house can be rented all year round. Price is 5 300:- SEK per week or 1 000:- SEK per day if you rent a shorter period than a week. You clean up yourself after your stay or book before arrival a final cleaning for 700:- SEK extra. If you should cancel a booking, you'll get back already paid money reduced by a bookingfee of 500 SEK. You need to have your own towels and bedsheets with you. Electricity, water and wood for the oven are included in the price. The house is non-smoking and pets are not allowed, thank you.
The house has a sleeping room with double bed, a guestroom with double bed, an entrance hall, a bathroom with shower and WC, a fully equipped kitchen, a big living room and two verandas. Total area is 73 sqm (plus the verandas, se blueprint). Both in the living room and in the kitchen there are fireplaces. You have a beautiful view on the lake from both livingroom and the two verandas. Garden furniture and BBQ are at your disposal.
Distance to the lake with pier and raft is about 100m. There is only one house in the village which is permanently used, so usually you will have the lake for yourself. You should be a good swimmer, because you jump right into the deep water from the raft, it's difficult otherwise to get into the lake (no sandy beach). Really good bathing facilities for small children you find in Hultsfred, 3-5 km away. You are not allowed to fish in the lake (but there are about 30 other fishing lakes in the municipality, you buy fishing licenses at the touristoffice).
Around Älgshult there is beautiful nature, a small creek with ruins of a mill, a variation of forests, a mysterious cave and much more to discover.
Älgshult is 1 km away from the mainroad to Hultsfred, which itself is at 3 km distance. There you'll find shops, restaurants, bank, swimming hall, library, draisin rental, train to Stockholm and much more. To Vimmerby it takes you 20 minutes by car and to the Glasriket (Kingdom of Crystal) or to the Baltic Sea it's not even an hour.
You are welcome!
